There’s something special about late spring on the homestead—everything is coming to life, and we’re embracing the slower pace and simple joys of the season. If you’ve been following our journey, here’s a peek into what we’ve been up to on our little patch of land. Of course things have been busy with a new baby on the Homestead, but we are starting to get back into the groove and have been working behind the scenes. (Welcomed Archer Hayes on 3/10)
🌱 Garden Updates: Planting Season in Full Swing
Our vegetable garden is officially planted! We’ve filled the beds with fresh produce, added fragrant herbs, and planted lilacs, flowers, and a few beautiful red oak trees that will (eventually) bring shade and beauty to the homestead. Gardening is one of our favorite seasonal traditions, and watching it all grow is so rewarding.
🐥 New Baby Chicks on the Homestead
This spring, we added 12 new chicks to our flock. If you raise backyard chickens, you know how full of personality those first few weeks are. Our older hens are still adjusting, but we’re already loving the energy and excitement the chicks bring to the coop.
🍎 Fruit Tree Plans: Saying Goodbye & Starting Fresh
Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our Honeycrisp apple tree, but we’re planning to replace it soon. We’re also looking into adding a cherry tree, which would be such a fun addition to our little orchard space. Nothing beats homegrown fruit!
☀️ Outdoor Living with Littles
The boys are loving life outdoors lately. Most of our meals are now happening on the patio, and playtime stretches from sunrise to sunset. There’s dirt, bugs, sunshine, and so much laughter—exactly how childhood should be.
🥯 Favorite Toddler Snack: Homemade Bagels
Asher’s current favorite snack? My homemade bagels! They’re soft, wholesome, and perfect for on-the-go snacking (or a cozy breakfast on the porch).
🍼 Baby Food Prep & Snack Planning
With Archer turning three months old, I’ve started thinking about homemade baby food for the fall and prepping easy meals for our toddler. I’ve gathered some of my favorite toddler-friendly snacks and meal prep tools into one place to make life easier.
If you have a favorite go-to toddler snack, please share it in the comments! We love trying new things.
With love from our Homestead to yours,
The Mahoneys!
